Hydrogen Up Close at tu! Hambach

How is hydrogen produced? How is hydrogen produced? What role could it play in building a climate-friendly energy system for the future? And what exactly are scientists in Germany’s Rhineland mining region researching? Visitors to the upcoming edition of “tu! Hambach – A Meeting Place and Hub for Inspiration in the Region of the Future” will be able to explore these questions first-hand. The education and hands-on festival will take place from 10 to 14 June, bringing together science, technology and wider societal questions about the future in an interactive programme designed for visitors of all ages.

Under the title “Hydrogen Up Close”, the Helmholtz Cluster for a Sustainable and Infrastructure-Compatible Hydrogen Economy (HC-H2), together with the municipality of Titz, will host a special hydrogen-focused event on Friday, 12 June, from 10am to 2pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly with researchers and gain insights into the latest developments in hydrogen production, storage and use.

Brand-new

One of the highlights will be a visit to the brand-new hydrogen production facility operated by HyDN GmbH, located next to the Institute for a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy at Forschungszentrum Jülich’s Brainergy Park. The site offers a tangible example of how research, industry and the energy transition are already working together today.

The event is explicitly aimed at the wider public, not just specialist audiences. Whether visitors are technology enthusiasts, families or simply curious about the future of energy supply, the programme offers a chance to experience hydrogen technologies at close quarters and engage directly with experts.

tu! Hambach takes place in the area surrounding the Hambach open-cast mine and sees itself as a platform for dialogue, education and new ideas linked to the structural transformation of the Rhineland region. The festival is coordinated by a project team from NEULAND HAMBACH GmbH. Other partners involved include RWTH Aachen University, FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, BioeconomyREVIER at Forschungszentrum Jülich, the Rhineland Regional Association, the municipality of Merzenich and NEULAND HAMBACH.
